English Editing Solutions was founded in 2011 by American scientist Dr. Curtis Barrett to help researchers and clinical scientists excel in today’s English-dominated environment.
Following his undergraduate studies at Cornell University, Dr. Barrett received his PhD from the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, where he specialized in neuroscience and molecular physiology. After completing his postdoctoral training at Stanford University, he emigrated with his wife and children to Europe to continue his research in neurobiology and genetics at Leiden University Medical Center. After years helping his colleagues write manuscripts and grant proposals, he turned this into his full-time profession. Each year, Dr. Barrett edits more than a hundred manuscripts and grant proposals.
Dr. Barrett also holds a staff teaching position in the Education and Learning Sciences chair group at Wageningen University & Research (WUR) and an affiliate teaching position at Utrecht University, where he teaches academic and scientific writing to BSc and MSc students.
In addition, Dr. Barrett is available to give courses and workshops covering a variety of topics, including how to prepare scientific posters and presentations, how to use EndNote, Word, PowerPoint and Excel to their full potential, the essentials of writing manuscripts and grant proposals, and more.
Dr. Barrett is active in both the scientific and editing communities, serving as a peer reviewer for several journals and funding agencies and as a member of the following societies (links will open in a new tab/window):
